Bonding with Baby

This Week —

As most of you know, I am expecting my second child very soon and I’ve been going back to the playlists I listened to when the Elf was in my belly. While you are pregnant, listening to music will not only have a soothing and uplifting effect on you but also a positive influence on your unborn baby. Listening to relaxing music lowers anxiety, and sends calming chemicals throughout the body and into the placenta, facilitating bonding and connection.

Listen to —

Your baby’s hearing is formed by 16 weeks and fully developed by 24 weeks. Listening to music encourages early brain development in the fetus because music facilitates neuron connections in the brain. Especially high information music such as Classical and Jazz music.

Moreover, your unborn baby will be able to remember the music you listened to while you were pregnant. This means that you can use the same music to soothe your little one after it is born. I encourage you to play one hour of music a day to your belly. It can be by simply having a speaker nearby

Prenatal Yoga —

In this pregnancy, I’ve also remembered how essential it is to move your body not only for your physical but also your mental health. My absolutely favorite Pre/postnatal yoga teacher is Sonia Reiter and she teaches a zoom class every Friday at 10:30am EST. If you can’t make it at that time, she will send you a replay that you can use for a week. But my favorite thing about making it to the live class is the community of pregnant or postpartum women that share their stories, anxieties, joys, pains, and victories small and big.

Happy Bonding!
